DURHAM – Despite a power outage that postponed part of the D-I and the entire D-II swimming championships from Saturday to Sunday at the University of New Hampshire, five schools — Concord, Bow, Coe-Brown, Kearsarge and Belmont — were among the area teams that competed across various events.

On the D-II girls’ side, Bow finished seventh out of 20 with 82 points, while Kearsarge finished tied for 20th with two points. In D-II boys’ action, Coe-Brown placed 10th out of 18 with 41 points, Bow was 11th with 37 points, Belmont finished 13th with 24 points; and Kearsarge was 18th with nine points.

Hollis-Brookline (228) and Hanover (208) topped the girls’ standings, while Windham (204) and Hanover (194) were the top two teams for the boys.

For Bow, sophomore Ryan Powers won the boys’ 50-yard freestyle (22.58 seconds) and the 100-yard freestyle (49.71); sophomore Ian Klements placed eighth in the 100-yard freestyle (57.86); sophomore Lena Thompson placed third in the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.25) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.93); and sophomore Lorraine Schaeffner finished fourth in the 100-yard freestyle (55.91) and sixth in the 500-yard freestyle (5:42.77).

The Bow girls were also boosted by extra points in the 200-yard freestyle relay (fifth place) and 400-yard freestyle relay (sixth).

Other notable performances included Coe-Brown junior Chris Raymond, who won the 200-yard freestyle (1:50.22) and was second in the 100-yard freestyle (50.26), and Belmont’s Kyle Dumais, who placed third in the 50-yard freestyle (23.28) and third in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.94).

Coe-Brown’s Eric Boheen (seventh, 100-yard backstroke; eighth, 100-yard butterfly) and Kearsarge’s Mason Russell (eighth, 100-yard breaststroke; ninth, 100-yard butterfly) also had top-10 finishes.

Concord, the lone D-I participant from the area, placed 12th out of 16 schools on the girls’ side with 24 points; Bedford won with 281.5 points. The Tide did not have anyone compete on the boys’ side, which Bedford also won with 239 points.

Junior Lily Peterson placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.75) and sixth in the 200-yard individual medley (2:21.47). Both were personal-best performances.

Senior Molly Nyhan also competed in the 100-yard breaststroke and finished 11th (1:19.06). That was also a personal-best time for her.

“I am really pleased with both of the girls today,” Concord coach Bill Quinn said. “Getting to the end of a long season, staying healthy and timing your taper is not easy. They both swam lights out.”
