Winter storms and limited pool time have wrought havoc with the Concord High School swim team schedule, but the Tide was able to compete in Sunday’s Manchester City Championships. And with NHIAA swimming and diving championships quickly approaching, Concord took advantage of the opportunity.

The Tide girls scored 89 points to win the five-team meet at the YMCA Allard Center of Goffstown, topping the field of Queen City teams Manchester Central (73), Manchester Memorial (73), Trinity (26) and Manchester West (12).

The Concord boys tallied 74 points, second to Memorial (112), but ahead of Central (46) and Trinity (17).

Molly Nyhan won a pair of events to lead the Tide girls, taking top honors in the 100-yard freestyle (1 minute, 5.69 seconds) and 100 breaststroke (1:22.30).

Lily Peterson won the 200 individual medley (2:27.98) and finished second in the 500 freestyle with a season-best time of 5:46.95.

Griffen Hoaglund (second 200 freestyle), Grace Qui (second 100 backstroke), and runner-up finishes from both the 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle relay teams contributed other top finishes.

David Wicks (second in the 200 freestyle) had the best finish for the Concord boys, while Ryder Fisk (third 50 free), Ben Belanger (third 100 breaststroke) and both runner-up relay teams (200 free and 400 free) also scored well.

“Some really encouraging results as we approach the end of the season against some very strong competition from Manchester,” head coach Bill Quinn said. “We had a significant number of season bests from both the girls’ and boys’ teams. I am really happy that we are seeing the benefits of staying focused and committed to training for a very short season. We have had a rough patch with the weather of late resulting in canceled meets and practices.”

Concord only has two meets left on its calendar – both this week at Colby-Sawyer – and the NHIAA regular season concludes for all programs on Feb. 1. 

The Tide will compete in the Division I state championship on Feb. 12 at the University of New Hampshire’s Swasey Pool in the morning session. Division II will contest its championship in the afternoon.
