Letter: Confirmation bias run amok

For years, I have started my day reading the Concord Monitor. I particularly enjoy the Opinion section. Since the start of President Trump’s second term, I have seen more cases of confirmation bias than I can ever recall. Regular Opinion columns and Letters to the Editor both contain a mountain of confirmation bias.
On one side President Trump could cure cancer, and those folks would hunt down articles that claim cancer is good for you. On the other side, Trump could literally shoot someone, and other folk would hunt down ways to justify it. The fact is Trump’s second term will be like Saturday Night Live. Some ideas will be winners while others will be duds.
I am happy the Trump administration has taken on the black hole of waste that is the federal government. This is the first administration in my lifetime that is tackling government waste. I also support the deportation of criminals and gang members here illegally. I don’t support Trump’s attempt to ban certain media outlets from White House access over the name of a body of water thousands of miles away. I don’t support the deportation of some poor guy working 60 hours a week washing dishes just to make a living. The next four years will not be the end of Democracy or the golden age of America. We could all do better to look at things objectively.
