Traffic was backed up for miles on Sunday afternoon after a truck rolled over on I-93 south in Sanbornton, fatally injuring the passenger of the vehicle.

State police responded to the area near exit 19 around 1:30 p.m. after a Chevrolet truck attempted to reenter the highway from the shoulder and rolled over, ejecting John Hanna Jr., 52, of Lancaster, who died from his injuries, police said.

The operator, later identified as Casey Kirsch, 33, of Weymouth, Massachusetts, was transported to Franklin Hospital to be evaluated and was later arrested and charged with negligent homicide and aggravated driving while intoxicated.

He was arraigned in Belknap County Superior Court on Monday.

At the request of the state police, the Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene and took over the investigation. They were assisted by New Hampton and Sanbornton police departments, Sanbornton, Tilton and Nortfield Fire Departments and the New Hampshire DOT.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
