A house on North State Street caught fire Saturday night for the second time in three years. 

Concord fire officials were called to the home around 10:50 p.m. for reports of black smoke and flames coming from the side of the single-family home, said Battalion Chief Jeff Stone. The residents were not home at the time of the fire but a black Labrador Retriever was rescued by firefighters. 

Once on scene, firefighters knocked down the fire quickly, Stone said, and removed exterior shingling and insulation from the structure to check for hot spots. 

“We believe the fire was accidental and started somewhere near a trash can that was inside of one of the outside walls and burned through the wall,” Stone said. “Once it got enough air, it was noticed from the outside.” 

The interior of the home sustained heavy smoke damage and the family was displaced. 

No injuries were reported and the incident remains under investigation. The Concord Fire Department was assisted by Hooksett and Hopkinton fire departments. 

In the winter of 2020, the interior of the single-family home caught fire and caused heaving damage, displacing a family. 

The home was built in 1840, according to city tax records.
