Firefighters from Concord and seven other communities quickly subdued a basement fire on Foster Street early Friday morning. The home’s only occupant was uninjured, according to Concord Fire Chief John Chisholm.
The emergency call came in just after 2 a.m., and reached a second alarm fire, which drew first responders from Hopkinton, Loudon, Bow, Pembroke, Boscawen, Chichester and Hooksett.
Smoke alarms in the home were working properly and alerted the resident, who was outside when Concord Fire arrived, according to Chisholm. When Concord Fire arrived at 10 Foster Street, “a heavy amount of smoke” was emerging from the eaves of the house. The fire was quickly located in the basement and was under control by 2:31. Damage was limited to the basement
The fire was determined to be accidental, caused by a faulty battery charging setup, Chisholm said.
The three-bedroom home, built in 1880, is owned by Joseph Williams, according to city tax records.
