Girls’ Basketball

Pittsfield 33, Nute 20

Key players: Pittsfield – Ashley Clark (12 points), Alivia Lavigne (7 points), Chelsea Chagnon (6 points), 

Highlights: The Panthers won their first game of the season, picking up a victory on their home court over the Rams.

Records: Pittsfield 1-4; Nute 0-5

Laconia 49, Merrimack Valley 44

Key players: Laconia – Macy Swormstedt (27 points); MV – Kayla Smith (16 points), Izzy Navoy (15 points), Emma McNutt (8 points)

Highlights: MV led by a single point after the first quarter (17-16) and by three at halftime (28-25), but Laconia took a 38-37 lead at the end of the third quarter and extended it in the fourth.

Coach’s quote: “Very good basketball game tonight. Back-and-forth and Laconia made shots down the stretch to pull away. We need to do a better job rebounding and limiting turnovers. Loved our effort and energy, but need to clean a few things up.” – MV’s Bob McNutt

Highlights: The Spartans raced to a 24-4 lead after one quarter thanks to 11 points from Stephens in the game’s first eight minutes.

Coach’s quote: “We took Hollis out their game right away. We were totally in sync at both ends of the court. Kaitlin (Arenella) dominated the boards and played the best all-around game of her career.” – Pembroke’s Steve Langevin

Boys’ Basketball

Pinkerton 90, Concord 56

Key players: Pinkerton – Brady Sullivan (22 points), Josh Phanor (14 points); Concord – JD Nkurunziza (26 points), Thomas Saysaw (8 points), Sammy Iranzi (7 points)

Highlights: Pinkerton jumped out to a 31-10 lead in the first quarter. Concord regrouped and competed much harder the rest of the way.

Merrimack Valley 59, Laconia 52

Key players: MV – Boston Bradicich (14 points, 23 rebounds, 3 blocks), Nic Oglesby (19 points, 9 rebounds, 4 steals); Laconia – Wada Minaya (15 points), Brady Stevens (11 points)

Highlights: Bradicich and Oglesby were key players in the paint, helping MV to overcome a poor shooting night.

Highlights: After a scoreless first period the Brinity Falcons netted four goals in the second to take command of the game.
