A Hooksett police officer arrested a Pittsfield man with an outstanding warrant at the Circle K gas station in town earlier this month and then discovered that the suspect was in possession of a large amount of controlled substances, police said.

Officer Nicholas Kapteyn spotted 37-year-old Shane Russell of Pittsfield at the gas station and recalled that Russell had an active warrant out of Belknap County Superior Court. He learned that Russell was wanted for failing to appear on possession of methamphetamine and DUI with serious bodily injury charges, police said.

Once in custody, police say that Kapteyn found a cut straw with a tan powder inside and a tightly folded bill containing traces of suspected fentanyl.

The vehicle was seized and a search warrant turned up a bag containing multiple suspected illicit drugs, including approximately 158 alleged grams of Fentanyl, 44 grams of crystal methamphetamine and 16 grams of crack cocaine, police said.

The suspected drugs were individually packaged and accompanied by additional packaging equipment and a digital scale, leading police to charge Russell with three felony counts of possession with intent to distribute.  He is scheduled to be arraigned in the 6th Circuit-Hooksett District Court on March 14.
