D-III basketball: Belmont’s Martinez named Coach of the Year as Raiders lead area accolades

After winning their first ever state title last week, the Belmont Red Raider boys’ basketball led area programs in awards when the Division III basketball All-State teams were released by the New Hampshire Basketball Coaches Organization this week.

Belmont head coach Tony Martinez was named the Division III Coach of the Year after leading the Raiders (20-1) to the program’s first ever state title with a 49-43 win over Kearsarge in the final.

Two of his players, senior center Keegan Martinez and senior forward Anakin Underhill, were both named to the D-III All-State First Team, while junior point guard Treshawn Ray was named to the Second Team and sophomore guard Brody Ennis was selected for the All-Defensive Team.

Kearsarge senior point guard and team captain Noah Whipple also earned a spot on the First Team and also won the Jack Ford Memorial Scholar-Athlete Award, an award that is equal parts basketball performance, academic performance, and citizenship and community service, according to the NHBCO website.

Noah’s younger brother, sophomore Eli Whipple, earned an Honorable Mention and Hopkinton senior guard Noah Aframe was named to the All-Defensive Team.

On the girls’ side, Hopkinton senior point guard Shaylee Murdough was named to the All-State First Team and the All-Defensive Team for the second year in a row.

Winnisquam junior Caidyn Carter and Kearsarge senior Ava Shapiro were selected to the Second Team. Hopkinton senior Sydney Westover and Belmont senior Maddie Carrier earned Honorable Mentions.
