Senior forward Margo Kennedy tore her ACL last season and had a few bumps on the road to recovery before making her season debut for the Crimson Tide (3-7-2) against Spaulding (0-10-0). She came back like she had never left and scored two of the Tide’s goals in a 6-1 victory on Friday evening.
“Feels really good to be back. I haven’t played in a game in a year,” said Kennedy. “The first game for our jamboree, I strained my hip flexor, so it was really tough for me to sit out once again for almost half the season, and I’m finally back, and it’s been really good.”
Kennedy dribbled the ball through off of a one-touch assist by midfielder Ivy Negron to tuck the ball into the bottom left corner for her first goal. Her second came from a header after a great cross by senior defender Nevaeh Kalapinski.
“It wasn’t just one person, it was two or three working together to get that goal and put in the back of the net,” said Concord head coach Andrew Mattarazzo.
Those two goals capped a stellar performance by the team, which has improved their finishing and set-piece set-up since the start of the season.
Midfielder Kate Dickson had a brace of her own after being frustrated in the first half despite multiple attempts on target, and Kalapinski had scored a goal earlier in the game. Sophomore forward Laura Vitoria knocked one in from a corner that bounced around the box as well.
“We focused a lot on our passing, patterns and everything like that. I think that our girls have become more confident in themselves and each other, to be able to pass around teams and get the ball up the field,” said Mattarazzo.
Although the Crimson Tide have a record of 3-7-2, three of those losses were decided by just one goal and the team has come together in the later half of the season with a more polished look.

“It’s good to see them happy. We know they can do it. Coming out here scoring six goals in a game, it was good for them to put the ball in the back of the net, because it’s something we struggled with for the first half of the year,” said Mattarazzo. “Seeing them having fun and smiling and joking around with each other on the sidelines, that’s the best part about high school sports.”
