The Baseball Coaches Association of New Hampshire announced the All-State teams on Wednesday morning and four of the five majors awards in Division II went to area teams.
John Stark senior Anthony Paolicelli was named the Division II Player of the Year, while Bow senior Sean Guerrette was selected as Pitcher of the Year. Area coaches earned accolades too, with John Stark head man Dennis Pelletier selected as Coach of the Year by his peers. Bow’s Sean Carroll was named the JV Coach of the Year.
Through 17 games this year, Paolicelli has a .492 batting average and .536 on-base percentage with 29 hits, four home runs, 26 RBI and 17 runs scored in 69 at bats; plus a near-perfect .966 field percentage. Last year, Paolicelli was the Pitcher of the Year and he showed he’s the most well-rounded player in the division, posting an 8-0 mark, allowing just five runs (good for an ERA of 0.701) in 45.2 innings, striking out 103 and walking 18.
“Anthony is a unique blend of confidence and humbleness, whose main goal in everything he does is for his team to win,” Pelletier said. “That is always his top priority. A great thing to see in such a gifted athlete. When your best player is also the hardest worker on and off the field, it sets an incredible example for the rest of the team. That has been a huge part of our team’s success this season. Our group is a big family, and he's been a great leader for us. Pitching, hitting, base-running, fielding and the support he has for his teammates. It's just been amazing to witness and be a part of.”
Pelletier was named Coach of the Year after managing the Generals to a 16-1 record and the No. 1 seed for the D-II playoffs. John Stark opens tournament play on Saturday at home against the winner of No. 8 Lebanon vs. No. 9 Pelham. Pelletier has won 122 games in 10 seasons as the head coach of the Generals’ program, leading Stark to a championship in 2021.
Bow has a 12-5 record heading into the playoffs, but is 5-0 when Guerrette is on the mound. He’s allowed just nine runs and 13 hits in 40 innings with 39 strikeouts and 10 walks. The No. 4 Falcons open their tournament on Thursday at home against No. 13 Milford.
The Falcons have also been supported by a strong JV program, which has posted a 27-5 record in three seasons with Carroll at the helm.
“He has managed to develop skills and increase baseball IQ with our young players and has helped to produce several swing players in the last few years that have had immediate varsity impact,” Bow head coach Ben Forbes said. “He’s soft spoken, but the kids respond to his knowledge and dedication.”
