Bach’s Lunch: “The Clown” in Concert

Thursday, June 6, at 12:10 p.m. in the Recital Hall

Recorded in 1957, Charles Mingus’ The Clown is an album that explores form, narrative, and texture in the jazz quintet format. Featuring a narrator, free improvisation, and through-composed pieces, this album was ahead of its time during a period of great stylistic change.

In 2019, trombonist Josh Gagnon transcribed this music for study and performance, and is thrilled to be bringing this music to the Concord Community Music School. This performance also features Fall Raye - saxophones; Josh Gagnon - trombone; George Maclaurin - piano; Louis Stringer - bass; and Andre Sudol - drums

This event is part of Concord Community Music School’s 40th Anniversary Year. It is free and open to the public, thanks in part to the generosity of the Walker Fund. Donations are appreciated.
