The storm that swept through New Hampshire overnight was messy, especially during the morning commute, but it didn’t pack much of a wallop.

Things could be different this weekend.

The quick-hitting storm that began Wednesday night brought a couple inches of snow mixed with sleet and freezing rain to much of New Hampshire through midday Thursday. No major problems were reported.

The storm projected to start late Saturday could bring “significant snowfall and mixed precipitation” through late Sunday, followed by high winds and colder temperatures on Monday, says the National Weather Service’s office in Gray, Maine, which covers New Hampshire.

Snow mixed with rain, which makes the snow heavier, followed by high winds is a recipe for falling branches and trees, which is a recipe for power outages. All four of the state’s electric utilities say they are preparing teams to deal with downed lines.
