A man is facing a felony animal cruelty charge after he allegedly struck and killed a cat Monday afternoon.

Felix Perez, 30, was arrested on the charge, and is set to be arraigned on Tuesday.

Police were called to Mammoth Road around 1:44 p.m. for a report of possible animal cruelty, authorities said in a press release.

On scene, police said they spoke with two different people who said Perez reportedly told them a cat bit him while he was trying to clean it, and said he then struck the cat.

A witness found the cat and said it had blood around its mouth and was unable to use all of its legs. The cat had died before police arrived, authorities said.
