Months into her first term as a congresswoman, U.S. Rep. Maggie Goodlander has bought a home in Concord, which is within the second congressional district that she represents.
Goodlander and her husband, former national security adviser Jake Sullivan, recently purchased a 4,600-square-foot house for just over $1,000,000, according to local property records.
The five-bedroom, four-bath home built in 1930 is located near Auburn Street and White Park.
Though members of Congress are not required to reside in the part of the state they represent, Goodlander drew backlash during her campaign last year for owning a home in Portsmouth, which is in the first district.
While campaigning, she rented an apartment in the second district in Nashua, where she grew up. Her spokesperson, Annie Lentz, did not directly respond to questions about whether Concord will be Goodlander’s primary residence in New Hampshire.
“My husband Jake and I are excited to be joining the Concord community in our state’s capital for the next chapter of our lives together,” Goodlander said in an emailed statement. “I will always be a proud fourth-generation Nashuan — I love and am forever grateful to the city where I was born and raised.”
