D-III Baseball

No. 4 Belmont 11, No. 5 White Mountains 1, 5 inn.

Key players: Belmont – Anakin Underhill (5 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 3 K; 2-for-3, HR, 3 RBI, 2 runs, walk), Michael Collette(1-for-2, walk, 2 RBI), Jaxson Embree, (1-for-3, RBI), Owen Waldron (1-for-3, RBI), Wyatt Divers (1-for-3, RBI), Wyatt Bamford (1-for-3, RBI)

Highlights: Belmont scored two runs in the first inning, five in the second, Underhill’s solo home run was in the fourth and the Raiders plated three more in the fifth to end Saturday’s quarterfinal early. Belmont will play No. 1 Conant (17-0) in Tuesday’s semifinal at Robbie Mills Park in Laconia. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Coach’s quote: “We played our best game of the season today, and the team went out and really earned it. The guys were spirited and played with confidence. White Mountains is a good, well-coached team and we knew that it would take a full team effort to get it done today.” – Belmont’s Matt LeBlanc

No. 2 Campbell 10, No. 7 Bishop Brady 0

Key players: Bishop Brady – Luke Bedard (3 IP, 1 ER, 4 K; hit), Max Guerra (hit), Kolt Gaudreault (hit)

Highlights: Jack Kidwell put Campbell on top in the bottom of the first with a two-run home run. Campbell added three more in the bottom of the second and Bishop Brady wasn’t able to respond at the plate, ending the Giants’ season in the D-III quarterfinals.

Coach’s quote: “They are 16-1 for a reason. Every mistake we made over the plate today, they hit hard. For a very young team we had a good season, finishing 12-6 and making it to the quarterfinals.” – Bishop Brady’s Skip Foy

Highlights: Strong pitching and hitting from Paolicelli and Philibotte, plus strong defense, allowed the Generals to escape with a narrow 2-1 quarterfinal victory. John Stark will play No. 5 Bow in Wednesday’s semifinal at Memorial Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Coach’s quote: “We definitely played abnormally tight today. But once again, when you have a pitching combination of Anthony and Chase, we always have a chance to win. D-II Softball

No. 5 Bow, No. 4 ConVal 2

Key players: Bow – Taylor Ouellette (7 IP, 2 R, 4 H, 6 K; RBI, run), Emma Kelly (hit), Ella Roos (hit), Caly Poitras (defense)

Highlights: The Cougars went up 2-0 early, but the Falcons utilized small ball effectively coming from behind to win Saturday’s quarterfinal on the road and advancing to the final for the first time in program history. Madison Oppold’s sacrifice bunt scored Bow’s first run in the fourth inning, Ouellette’s RBI single tied the game, 2-2, and Lily Wright’s RBI single scored Ouellette in the top of the sixth for the Falcons’ game-winning run. Lauren Oppold turned a double play in the bottom of the sixth to get Bow out of a jam and the Ouellette shut down ConVal for six innings after allowing two runs and three hits in the first. Bow will play No. 1 Coe-Brown in Tuesday’s semifinal at Plymouth State’s Chase Field.

Records: Bow 14-5; ConVal 13-5

No. 3 Oyster River 10, No. 6 Merrimack Valley 1

Key players: MV – Caydence Allberg (2-for-3; 3.2 IP in relief), Kayla Smith (2.1 IP; 1-for-3)

Highlights: Allberg shut 3.2 innings of shutout relief and Smith played well at shortstop, but the Pride’s season came to an end in the quarterfinals in Durham.

Highlights: The Giants trailed 4-2 heading into the top of the sixth of Saturday’s quarterfina. Brady got one run back, but Gilford got the third out with the bases loaded to stop the rally.

Records: Gilford 16-2; Bishop Brady 13-5

D-III Boys’ Lacrosse

No. 5 Bow 7, No. 4 Kearsarge 6, OT

Key players: Bow – Gavin McCabe (3 goals), Billy Smethurst (goal, assist), Brad Ekstrom (13 saves), Ryan McCabe (goal, assist), Brodie O’Neil (goal), Keenan Hubbard (goal), Sam Bennett (assist)

Highlights: The Falcons punched their ticket to the semifinals thanks to an overtime goal by Smethurst. Gavin McCabe scored late in the fourth quarter to tie the game and force OT.

Coach’s quote: “Players win games and I'm proud of our guys for the hard work in practices and games all season. Our group has been through a lot this season. We learn from every experience. Proud of our process all game and happy to get back on the practice field on Monday.” – Bow’s Devin Calkins
