Keep the kids alive

When I was out walking this evening, I happened to see a good friend. We talked briefly and as I was saying “Good-bye,” I added, “Stay safe.”

My friend is not a police officer or a fireman. He works in a school. It is ridiculous to realize that it was a perfectly appropriate thing to say to him. I know that some of our Supreme Court justices consider themselves originalists and believe that is the way to interpret the Constitution. But somehow I have trouble believing that back in 1787, the likes of Madison, Washington, Franklin et al had any concept that the future would contain assault weapons, armor piercing bullets, and bump stocks Or that their words would be used to insure that possessing those things was a basic right that is valued more than our children.

When will we realize that we could have sensible gun laws and live children?
